Important information about fibroscan

Short video with important information:

WHAT IS A FIBROSCAN

A FibroScan is a non-invasive device used to measure the extent of fibrosis or scarring of your liver. Using ultrasound technology, a FibroScan can be used by your Triborough GI gastroenterologist to avoid doing a liver biopsy.

PREPARATION

Being that the procedure is noninvasive, preparation for this test is simple. No food or liquids of any kind can be ingested for 3 hours prior to your test. You will also be asked to wear loose clothing that would not interfere with the test.

THE PROCEDURE

During this procedure you will be asked to lie down on your back with your right arm raised above your head. A water-based gel will be applied to your skin and a non-invasive probe will be placed over your liver. You may feel some vibrations on your skin as the probe sends out ultrasound waves.

RECOVERY TIME

As it is a non-invasive procedure, recovery time is unnecessary. As soon as the test is concluded, you will be discharged without any restrictions. Results of the FibroScan are typically available after one to two weeks.
